The Real Reason For Your Headaches

Hi, my name is Dr. Jacob Hendendrickson,
the chiropractor and owner at Crystal
Grove Chiropractic. And one of the most
common things that I see in my office
that I treat are headaches and
migraines. Now, headaches and migraines
are very common and tend to happen more
so in the female population than the
male population. And there’s certain
reasons for that, but the primary reason
is simply poor posture. Now, imagine
you’re sitting like this. Your head’s
pushed forward. Your shoulders are
rounded. Maybe we’re texting. Maybe
you’re on the computer. But what happens
is because gravity exists, we’re in this
poor posture, it starts to squish us
down. If this is your spine and we’re
supposed to be in this nice neutral
posture where everything’s nice and
even, and everything gets pushed forward
like that and compressed, spinal
compression, the bones get squished, the
discs in your spine get squished, the
muscles get squished, the nerves get
squished, everything gets squished, and
it causes a lot of tension and
tightness. Now, one thing that you can
do that’s relatively simple is simply
try to sit up nice and straight. Imagine
that there’s a string on the top of your
head and someone is pulling it directly
up. What this does is it helps elongate
the spine and elongate the tissues and
take pressure off of everything and it
will feel better. Now, you’ll forget and
you’ll start to slump back down, but we
need to retrain our body to do that.
Another easy thing is you can simply get
on a chair and just start to stretch
backwards like that. Now, oftentimes
this can give you enough relief to make
it through the day. But here at Crystal
Grove Chiropractic, what we do when
someone’s coming in with headaches or
migraines is we generally look at the
neck first because this is the primary
contributor to those symptoms. But we
utilize spinal decompression or traction
tables that really stretch and
decompress the spine to help alleviate
the symptoms. Then we also use spinal
adjustments to help move the bones so
that they function better and which aids
in more decompression of the spine. If
you or anyone else that you know are
experiencing these symptoms, please
reach out and see if we can help you.
