Hi, I am Dr. Jacob Hendrickson, the owner and chiropractor at Crystal Grove Chiropractic in LUTs, Florida. And I wanted to talk to you about something that I see very commonly in my office, and that is tension, headaches and migraines, and why that happens. Is generally increased compressive forces on your spine.
So if we’re supposed to have good neutral posture like this, the individuals that you’ll notice that may have these tension headaches or migraines tend to have their head pushed forward slightly more. Or maybe they have grounding in the shoulders, which does cause their head to get pushed forward more.
And this literally creates compression of your spine. So gravity pulls us down and compresses us naturally, but this causes increased compressive forces decreasing joint space, and they’ll often be. People often feel a lot of tension right at the base of their skull, top part of their neck, or the bottom part of their neck, upper part of their back.
Now, one easy thing you can do is simply sitting up straighter, imagining that there’s a string pulling you up just like that. And you’re not going to like over exaggerate it, but just like this. And that literally stretches and opens up the joints and the tissue just making it easier. Another thing that you can do, which is really.
Great are chin tucks where you’ll just come back. Imagine you’re trying to close a drawer with your head just like that. Not this. Just straight back and you can guide it. You don’t push, you guide. Hold for two seconds. Back, hold one, two, back, hold one, two. You’ll feel a stretch back here and possibly even down here.
It’ll feel really good ’cause you’re opening everything up and stretching out those joints and the muscles taking pressure off of those areas and that should help decrease your headaches or migraines. Now if they’re really advanced and it’s in, you’re in a lot of discomfort. There’s not too many things other than waiting it out.
Sometimes these can help get you there quicker. But that’s just a simple, easy trick, simple, easy tip that you can utilize, and you’ll do about 10 to 12 of those, maybe three or four sets of that.
