Whether you’re curious about chiropractic care or looking to understand the real story behind what chiropractors do, this episode offers an honest, straightforward explanation from an experienced practitioner.

Hey there, this is Doctor Jacob Henricksen from Crystal Grove Chiropractic here in Loots, Florida. Thanks so much for tuning in today.

You know what I hear all the time? People telling me they’re not really sure what chiropractors actually do. And honestly, I get it. There’s a lot of confusion out there… a lot of myths floating around. So today, I want to set the record straight and give you the real story about what happens in a chiropractor’s office.

Let’s start with probably the biggest myth I hear. A lot of folks think chiropractors just crack backs all day long. That popping sound… people assume that’s all we do. But here’s the thing. That adjustment, that popping noise you hear, it’s actually gas releasing from the joint. Think of it like opening a bottle of soda. The sound itself isn’t the treatment. What we’re really doing is restoring proper movement to joints that aren’t moving the way they should. When a joint gets stuck or restricted, it affects how your nervous system communicates with the rest of your body. Our job is to find those restrictions and get things moving properly again.

Now, another myth that drives me a little crazy… people think once you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to go forever. Look, that’s just not true. Here’s how I explain it to my patients at Crystal Grove. Yes, some people choose ongoing wellness care because they feel better and want to stay that way. Kind of like going to the gym or getting your teeth cleaned. But plenty of people come in with a specific problem, we work together to resolve it, and then they’re on their way. You’re always in control. My goal is to get you feeling better and teach you how to take care of yourself.

Here’s one that really matters. Some people think chiropractors aren’t real doctors. So let me clear this up. Chiropractors go through years of intensive education. We’re talking about a doctorate program… usually about eight years of college level training. We study anatomy, physiology, neurology, radiology, diagnosis, and yes, we take board exams just like medical doctors. We’re licensed healthcare professionals. The difference is our approach. We focus on the musculoskeletal system and how it affects your overall health, and we do it without drugs or surgery.

One more thing I want to address. People sometimes think chiropractic care is only for back pain. And sure, we see a lot of back pain… but we also help with neck pain, headaches, shoulder problems, hip issues, even things like sciatica. Basically, if it involves your spine, your joints, or your nervous system, there’s a good chance we can help.

So what can you do right now? Start paying attention to your posture. Notice how you sit at your desk or how you’re holding your phone. Small changes add up. Move throughout your day. Our bodies weren’t designed to sit for eight hours straight. And if you’re dealing with pain or stiffness that’s not going away, don’t just tough it out.

That’s where we come in. If something’s been bothering you for more than a week or two, or if it’s affecting your daily life, it’s worth getting it checked out. We can figure out what’s going on and create a plan that makes sense for you.
